Synopsis: Ashley is a 17-yr-old who is about to leave her nice suburban neighborhood to go away to college. Not long after the parents leave, strange things start happening. Are they really being terrorized by masked intruders? But it’s such a safe neighborhood!

Synopsis: The movie begins in the mid 1950's, where we learn the Sawyer family, headed up by matriarch Lili Taylor, is up to their usual shenanigans. But when they murder the daughter of a local deputy, he responds by doing the sensible thing & taking the minor Sawyer children into state custody. When chaos erupts at the state home, a handful of wards escape (along with a nurse, who is having a terrible first day) and now it's the local deputy's job to track them down.

Stephen King is just sooo hot right now and since we'd never want to be considered "un-hip," we'll be jumping on the King-wagon to review the recently released Gerald's Game, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Stars: Jennifer Lawrence (mother), Javier Bardem (Him), Ed Harris (man), Michelle Pfeiffer (woman), the Gleeson brothers & Kristen Wiig?!

An unnamed woman (Jennifer Lawrence) lives in a secluded farmhouse with her husband, a famous poet who is struggling with writer’s block. While the man tries to write, the woman keeps herself busy by renovating the house, which had previously been almost completely destroyed by a fire. Things aren’t perfect (dude is pretty moody, emotionally unavailable, etc.), but she seems to be pretty content.

Everything changes when a guy shows up at their door, claiming he thought the place was a B&B. It’s Ed Harris, & he’s soon followed by his wife, Michelle Pfeiffer, then more & more people. Soon, both JLaw & the farmhouse (& the viewer!) begin to crumble under the weight of all the uninvited guests.

 

Next up, another entry into the Texas Chainsaw franchise. But wait! This one's helmed by the duo who brought you the ultra gory french extremity flick Inside. See, now we've got your attention. Synopsis: A group of orphans, & the nun who cares for them, are invited to live in the home of the Mullins (a dollmaker & his invalid wife) in the 1950s. Once there, the precocious girls discover the dollmaker’s sad history - that his young daughter, Bee, was killed in a tragic car accident a decade before.

The orphans begin to witness strange, paranormal events in the house, which seem to be related to a hideous doll found locked away in a secret space within the dead daughter’s "off-limits" bedroom. One of the girls in particular, Janice, is plagued with visitations by the doll & Bee’s spectre, who seem to have special plans for her. Will her best friend, Linda, be able to help her before it’s too late?

Synopsis: We follow Arlen, a woman who's just been deemed part of the "Bad Batch", as she struggles to adapt and survive is this unforgiving and cannibalistic new world. Along the way she is helped, hindered or both by the men she meets, including King of the Studs Jason Momoa, Keaunu Reeves & and almost unrecognizable Jim Carey. Guess they all saw *A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night* & wanted in on that action. Can't say as I blame them. Unfortunately, Amirpour's follow-up suffers many of the same problems tht befall lauded filmmakers' second features. Oh well. Go get em next time, tiger!

Synopsis: While on a tropical vacation, sisters Kate & Lisa decide to throw caution to the wind and join Captain Matthew Modine and his crew on a rusted and very unsafe-looking cage-diving adventure. Shockingly, things go terribly wrong and the sisters soon find themselves trapped in a cage at the bottom of the ocean (with very little oxygen and a gang of bloodthirsty sharks).

Next up, it's Hunk Fest 2017 as we review (and Amy drools over) The Bad Batch, starring Jason Momoa and Keanu Reeves. It probably stars other folks, too, but they aren't as hunky so they're harder to remember...
