Synopsis: Students, Kat & Rose, are left behind at their catholic boarding school over break after their parents fail to pick them up. Alone with only a couple nuns to look after them, Rose begins to suspect something might be wrong with the quiet, kinda odd Kat.
In a separate plot line we follow Joan, who appears to have escaped from a hospital of some kind. A good-intentioned couple offers her a ride, & we discover that their path seems to be heading in the direction of the boarding school.

Next up, we veer off the beaten trail a tad as we review the recently released HBO documentary, Beware the Slenderman. It's a perfect blend of our two loves: horror and true crime. Synopsis: Little Francisca lives on a remote farm with her Portuguese-transplant mother & taciturn father. She idolizes her mother, a former surgeon who is seen teaching her about her namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, & giving her anatomy lessons using the local cows. An act of violence is the catalyst which influences Francisca’s psychologically damaged development into very lonely adulthood. The movie progresses towards an inevitable conclusion as Francisca becomes increasingly desperate for companionship in addition to becoming more & more unhinged.

During the Iran-Iraq War in 1988, a woman and her daughter are left alone in their Tehran apartment, while her husband serves in the military. After other tenants in the apartment building decide to move north in an attempt to escape the likely destruction of Tehran, Shideh goes against the wishes of her husband and remains in the apartment, despite the danger. But it isn't just bombs that Shideh and her daughter have to be afraid of. There seems to be a malevolent force in the apartment, intent on taking everything from them.

A prequel to the first movie, in which we learn more about the previous owners of the house. Set in 1967. Alice, along with her two daughters Lina & Doris, is struggling to make ends meet after the death of her husband. She runs a fortune-telling business out of her home, & her daughters assist her in fooling their customers with trick cabinets, candles that go out at will, etc. Things start to get real when Alice decides to add a Ouija board into her act. It’s youngest daughter, Doris, who seems to have a real knack for using the board.
